Disobedience leads to destruction
God’s ways are higher than our ways. He will tell us to either do or not to do certain things that is outside of our own plans. However, ignoring God’s instructions does not mean He will forget about it and move on to the next episode. He will do whatever it takes to get our cooperation. Obeying God means the selfless act of putting your own desires and requirements aside to focus on what He has instructed. Doing things our way will only lead to destruction.
Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
Do not give the devil credit
When negative things happen, we are quick to rebuke the devil, not understanding that God allows some of these things to occur. Let’s use Jonah’s story for reference. Jonah knew that it was his disobedience which caused him to end up in the belly of the fish. He acknowledged his sin and repented. There are sinful acts of disobedience that sometimes push us to end up be in the fish’s belly, but we do not acknowledge where we are or come to repentance. Instead, we stay in the fish’s belly wanting to have our own way swimming around rebuking the devil. It is not the devil, turn to God!
Our call to Salvation
When we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we are also accepting His will and purposes for our lives. Accepting Christ means allowing Him to be Lord over our lives. You cannot give your life to Christ and then negotiate His rules. You will walk the right path only when you follow His leading. God is our supreme Satnav/GPS Who is ready to guide us through life, but we must allow Him to guide us. Sheep need direction because they wander off the paths and they are not able to see far ahead. No wonder God compared us to them and we do need our shepherd. Isaiah 53:6 says, “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own…”
Prayer
Dear Father,
Thank You for being my Lord and Saviour and I acknowledge You as my Shepherd. I know I often do my own thing, not following your direction, and therefore go off track, so I repent of my disobedience. I lay down all my plans and desires at your feet. Reveal to me your plans and purpose for my life. I will trust and obey Your way that leads to life abundantly. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
