Trusting God in challenging times
Trust and faith work in partnership
Without faith, it is impossible to trust God. This is because trust is a demonstration of faith, and it comes before trust. Often people say they trust God, but sometimes that trust only exists when they do not necessarily need to apply it, because everything in their life is good. Faith in God means no matter what situation or circumstance life throws at you and you cannot see a way out; you still believe in God and his promises. Trust is acting upon your faith despite the circumstances and consequences. Our actions demonstrate our trust in God.
God allows or creates situations
When you are going through difficulties, you can look at it in two ways; it is either God allowed it, or he has created it. Therefore, no matter which way it is, you will flourish. God not only allows certain things to happen to edify and strengthen us, but also for others around to see and fear the one true God. He did not create the fire for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, but he certainly allowed it, and He was in there to sustain and bring them out.
God only allows things that He can take us out of, and as the saying goes, “What God cannot do doesn’t exist.”
Therefore, why do we panic, stress, and even lose faith in God when difficulties arise? Jesus made it clear to us that we will have struggles, but he also advised us to take heart. Some of these struggles are created by God to prune us to become more like Jesus.
Trusting God generates peace
Once I was dealing with a challenging situation and I was praying and fasting regarding the issue. Suddenly, I heard the voice ask me a rhetorical question “Rema why don’t you leave it to me?” I was shocked because I thought by praying and fasting, I was leaving it to God and trusting Him. But no, I was telling God what to do and how to do it.
As soon as I realised what God wanted me to do, I confidently handed over the situation to God properly and trusted him to have his way. It was only then that I felt the uttermost peace. We must trust God to do things his way, and not lean on our understanding. When you trust your driver, you put on your seatbelt, relax and even go to sleep. Jesus is the ultimate driver. Trust him and he will take you safely to your destination.
Prayer
Father, thank you for the confidence of the cross. You are the God of the impossible. Help me to trust you wholeheartedly. When I face uncertainty let me be reminded that you cause all things to work together for good and I can do nothing without you. I pray for unwavering faith like Shadrach Meshach and Abednego. I trust in your divine plans for my life. I surrender all to you. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
